The EU in the Age of Permacrisis

This workshop provides an opportunity for all those interested in European Macroeconomics to discuss their research and to exchange ideas. Researchers are invited to submit both empirical and theoretical papers that are broadly consistent with the workshop’s special topic. This conference will encourage collaborations between theoretical and applied researchers. The conference is sponsored by:
In particular, we welcome papers related to the following fields in European Macroeconomics:
- Climate change, environment, and energy crisis
- Digitalization, automation, and growth
- Political tensions, political macroeconomics and geopolitical risks
- Assessment of recovery plans, public investment strategies
- Fiscal policy, public debt sustainability, fiscal rules
- Inflation, conventional and non-conventional monetary policy
- Banking system, financial integration, financial stability
- External debt sustainability, international reserves, exchange rates
- Labor market mutations, wages, migrations, poverty, and inequality
The workshop is open to anybody involved in these research areas, including both young and experienced researchers, Ph.D. students, post-doctoral researchers, and professionals from business, government and non-governmental institutions. Besides, a special attention will be given to interdisciplinary works in Political science and in Law that tackle the aforementioned fields.
Only full papers may be submitted, preferably in PDF format. Papers should be submitted through the conference website. The submission should mention the following details: title of communication, name(s) of the author(s), affiliation of the author(s), e-mail address of the corresponding author.

All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed according to a high-quality and fast referee process. You will receive an e-mail indicating whether your paper is accepted for presentation during the workshop or not before September 30, 2023.
Paper presenters are expected to discuss a different paper during the workshop. The discussant assignments will be made by the workshop organizers at a later date. As the workshop intends to build a network in this research area, participation is welcome even without paper contributions.
Registration and Registration Fee
There will be no registration fees for presenters. For other participants, fees amount to 50 euros.

ERMEES (the European Macroeconomics Research Team of Strasbourg) was born, in 2013, from the will to federate researchers specializing in European economic issues in the University of Strasbourg. ERMEES also intends to participate in the public debates. Website: https://ermees.fr/
Venue
The workshop takes place at the European Doctoral College, 46 Boulevard de la Victoire, 67000 Strasbourg, France.
– From Strasbourg railway station
- Walk here in 40 minutes by first going towards the cathedral, then towards the University via the river bank and Boulevard de la Victoire.
- Take a direct tram from the station. Take the « C » get off at the « Observatoire » tram stop, you’ll see the Residence immediately to the right of the petrol station. Journey time: approximately 20 minutes, depending on tram frequency.
- Take the bus: Bus line « 2a » takes you from the station to the « Esplanade » round-about. You then need to walk across the campus to find the Residence.
– From Strasbourg-Entzheim airport
- Take the shuttle train to the main Train station (journey is 7 minutes). From there, follow directions given in the former section.
– From Frankfurt airport
- Take the Lufthansa Bus Express which stops at the main railway station in Strasbourg: https://www.lufthansa.com/gb/en/lufthansa-express-bus.
– From EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg
- Take the shuttle bus (departures every 15 to 30 minutes, travel time is 10 minutes) to go to the train station of Saint-Louis (Grand Est). From there, you take a train to the main railway station in Strasbourg.
– By car

Accommodation
Participants are responsible for their travel and accommodation arrangements. The registration fee does not cover accommodation. Please make your reservations as soon as possible, preferably at the end of September. In reason of the Winter market in Strasbourg, the availability of hotel rooms rapidly decreases.
